Although we try, not every shelter gem can be saved.  Because of this, Even Chance created a Compassion Program dedicated to giving these dogs some well deserved home time prior to them leaving this world. Even Chance’s compassion program is open to older, medically untreatable, or otherwise unadoptable dogs that are scheduled be euthanized at local shelters and humane societies. Even Chance will take these dogs in, give them some peaceful time in a loving home and ultimately let them comfortably pass on in loving arms. This is a difficult task, but knowing that we positively affect their lives in the short time we have them is very rewarding.

The dogs featured below have completed their time with our wonderful compassion fosters and have crossed over rainbow bridge to doggie heaven.

Cooper
Oh Cooper…the abuse and neglect you endured is heartbreaking. Someone cut your ears off straight down to your head, then left you to survive on your own with two broken front legs. We are astounded how loving you were to people after all of this. Your legs had been broken for months, you were left to crawl around on your own on the streets, yet you were still content giving kisses and receiving affection right back. There wasn’t anything the surgeons could do to fix your legs. We are sorry we didn’t find you sooner, but were lucky to have met such a survivor.

Tera
Tera, you were an absolute gem! I originally picked you up from the shelter as a compassion pull. You were a senior gal with two blown knees and cancerous skin. Our plan for you was to give you a good week and then let you go. Well, that didn’t happen as planned. Everyone fell in love with you and no one could make that life ending decision. So, we treated your cancerous masses with surgical procedures and put you on pain medications and joint supports for your horrible arthritis and blown knees. You were always a joy to have around and were one of the very few dogs to rarely be crated and sleep in my bed at night. You were tolerant of all the dogs around and were so well behaved in the house. Everyone who met you fell instantly in love and was impressed with your poise and beauty. It was very hard to make the final decision to let you go, but we could no longer treat your cancer or control your arthritis pain. You were an unforgettable presence in my life and I will never ever forget you.

Daisy
Daisy…what an angel you were.  You also spend so much time at the shelter before we could help you. You endured such a horrible life prior to the shelter; used and tossed after serving your owner as a bait dog in the inhumane sport of dogfighting. Through it all, you still loved people and dogs. How you remained so optimistic, we will never understand.
That day we were able to take you from the shelter, you passed out in my car. We went immediately to the ER and you were diagnosed with a life threatening heart condition. Looking back, we always blamed your calm demeanor and weight loss on shelter kennel stress, but turns out it was a side effect of your condition. We only spend a short three days with you and we are sorry we couldn’t have helped you more.

Logan a compassion rescue
Logan
Poor Logan; dropped off at a local with your brother Mako because your owner passed away. Unfortunately, not too many people are looking for a 10 year old guy to bring home, especially with all those benign skin masses. And you were pretty set in your ways when it came to being around other animals. You were a joy to have around for a short 5 days and you lived like a king! Spoiled with food, treats, rawhides, and even sleeping in bed, I hope we did right by you in your last week. I will never forget your smiley face, soulful eyes and playful antics.

Patches a compassion rescue
Patches
Patches was found as a stray in Escondido. She’s only about a year old, but has the hips and joints of a 10 year old. With severe hip and knee disease and under socialization with people, you were not eligible for adoption. Very nervous of new situations, loud noises or quick movements, you reminded me to always step lightly and take life at a slower pace; for that I thank you. You did always keep me smiling! You are a sucker for food and loved to sleep on your back, keeping me awake with your snoring. A couple nights it took me hours to get to sleep because you were snuggled up next to me, on your back with legs straight in the air, snoring like a sleepy pig. I didn’t mind; it was hilarious! I hope you had a comfortable and pleasant time here with us for those 7 days. We strived to keep you pain free and well fed (you wanted the food to keep coming!).
